Well Randy Couture did what all (or most) mma fans were expecting and waiting to see…

Randy took Toney down with an easy single leg a few seconds into the first round. Randy immediately got into full mount and started to rain punches. Toney tried to escape but was no match for Couture’s ground control and ended up in an arm triangle which soon caused him to tap.

It looked as if Toney had not done any type of grappling training judging from his lack of defense on the ground, but as Joe Rogan asked the question while calling the fight, “How much can you pick up in nine months?”

In the post fight interview When Joe Asked Toney if he had worked enough on his ground game, Toney replied with “My ground game is fine, its just that I fought an excellent fighter”.

Toney finally giving Randy the respect he deserves.

Frankie Edgar wins a dominant unanimous decision win in his title fight rematch with BJ Penn. In his pre fight interview Penn stated that Edgar will just try to do what he did last time, but just polish it up a bit. And thats exactly what Frankie did. BJ had no answer for Edgar’s footwork, hand speed and unpredictabilty.

Except for a couple of takedowns in the later rounds, which Edgar soon reversed, BJ looked two steps behind the whole fight.

Here are the rest of the results…

James Toney’s MMA Training Camp for UFC 118

Here’s one of the latest videos from Fightmagazine.com where we get a peek inside James Toney’s MMA Training for his fight on August 28th against former UFC Light Heavyweight/Heavyweight Champion and Hall of Famer Randy Couture.

What I find amusing is that after such long career as a ‘pugilistic defensive counter-punching specialist’ that many James Toney videos uploaded to youtube require subtitles to understand what the hell it is he is saying!

Sorry, that has nothing to do with anything in particular but I had to get it off my chest.

I am a big fan of Couture and though I am not the biggest fan of Toney’s I have to give him props for his boxing ability, what he has accomplished in the sport, and his willingness to be the first popular, ‘legitimate’ boxing champion to try his hand (or both) at mma.

They say that James has been preparing for this fight for months, training in wrestling and jiu jitsu, and that he is in shape. To be honest, if that’s him in shape, then I shudder to think of him out of shape. Though looks can be decieving I suppose.

Sorry James, I hope Randy gives you a greco roman wrestling, ground and pound beating of legendary proportions :)

And if you do happen to stay on your feet long enough to land a ko punch…congrats to you.

Randy Couture Discusses ‘The Expendables,’ And Fight With James Toney At UFC 118

Cagepotato.com interviews Randy Couture about his role in ‘The Expendables’ alongside action heros such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren, Bruce Willis and Jet Li.

I thought the interviewers first question to Randy was pretty funny “How big are Sylvester Stallone’s forearms?!”

Randy also comments on pursuing his acting career and waiting for the right roles rather than just taking any old direct to dvd action flick offered to him.

He also gives his insight into the James Toney fight coming up on the 28th of August and
Dana Whites back and forth opinion on whether it will be a ‘freak show’ or not. I like Randy’s view that it will be more of a novelty fight. Boxing vs mma…it will be in the cage, with mma rules so it will be an mma fight.

If Randy decides to go toe to toe I think it will be “Lights Out” for Couture (excuse the pun), but if James hasn’t learned to sprawl, and work in the clinch, (which I’m sure he has, but will it be enough) then it will be a long night for Toney with Randy grounding and pounding.

Even if James has learned to wrestle, he will still have his work cut out for him. Its hard to beat a guy like Randy at his own game when he has been doing it for so long.
