Well…its a good thing I’m not a betting man.
Roy did did not win the fight by decision but was absolutely demolished by Danny in 2 minutes of the first round with a right hand to the side of the head that marked the beginning of the end for Jones.

Roy struggled back to his feet and Green jumped all over him until the ref stopped the fight.

I remember my jaw dropping when Jones hit the canvas but I can’t say that I was too surprised. With his recent form and coming to the end of his career, Roy has not been the same since Tarver knocked him out.

Hats off to Danny Green though, with the energy of the crowd on his side and the motivation to defeat the ‘legendary’ Jones he stayed focused and did the job…while Jones to me looked very placid and perhaps overconfident or maybe not really into it…and he payed the price for it.

As much as I’ve loved watching Roy Jones career I think it might be time to hang up the gloves…

The very first time I saw Roy Jones fight was against Eric Lucas in 1996. His performance against Lucas at the time was considered somewhat lack lustre even though Roy battered Lucas around the ring for eleven rounds in what resembled a sparring session before the doctors finally stopped the fight.

But even with this performance Roy’s flair and athletic ability were obvious and I have been following his career ever since.

He is, in my opinion the most gifted boxer ever to grace the square ring…right up with boxers like Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Robinson.

So this upcoming fight with Danny Green in Australia tonight (as I write this post) is one that I have been looking forward to ever since it was announced.

I’m looking for Roy to win the fight probably by decision. That is not very patriotic I know being that I’m Australian and Danny is a fellow Aussie but I feel that Roy, even at 40 years old still has the speed and athletic ability to outspeed and outbox Danny Green. If  Anthony ‘the mouth’ Mundine could do it a few years ago then I feel Roy could do it to. Even at 40 Roy is still better than the arguably similar boxing style of Mundine.

This is not counting Danny Green out however. If Roy is not paying attention and gets hit with one of Danny’s best shots he will be in trouble and I’m sure Danny will be fired up and will be applying plenty of pressure to Jones.

Well, thats my tip, I can’t wait till tonight to find out. Until then heres a video I found on Youtube with Roy and Danny talking about their upcoming bout…

While Im at it I thought I’d post the highlights of both of their recent fights on Roy’s fight card against Jeff Lacy.
