Been a bit in the holiday cheer the last couple weeks and so I have not been spending much time on posting MMA stuff. So for my last post of 2010, I’ll share this video from MMADieHards.com interview with UFC Champion Frankie Edgar at Ricardo Almeida’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy.

Frankie gives his thoughts and opinions on his upcoming rematch with Gray Maynard at UFC 125 on New Years Day and how his size disadvantage was a contributing factor to Maynard winning their first fight and why he doesn’t think it will affect him too much this time round.

Maynard has remarked that Edgar’s style has not changed since they first met and Frankie gives his opinion on that, and how he thinks Maynard’s style has changed.

He also talks about the merger of the WEC with the UFC and whether the fighters of the WEC are up to the standard of the UFC.

Personally I think that having multiple (so called world class) organizations in any sport can be confusing for the fans. When you have so many belts and titles, its easy to end up with a situation like you have in boxing today with all the ‘alphabet organizations’. Nobody really knows who the true champion of the world is!

Joe Stevenson talks about his upcoming fight against Mac Danzig at UFC 124. This will be a tough match up for Joe as Danzig is a well rounded tough opponent and it will be a good test for Joe’s still evolving striking skills as well as his already well known submission and wrestling skills.

I reckon Mac might have a little bit more versatility in his standup and but may have his hands full with Joe strength in the clinch and on the ground. I will be interested to see if Danzig can employ his super cardio from his vegan diet to wear Joe out a bit.

UFC 122 – Marquardt vs Okami is an upcoming mixed martial arts event to be held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship on November 13, 2010 at König Pilsener Arena in Oberhausen, Germany.

This event will air on the same day, via tape delay, on Spike TV in the U.S. This will be the UFC’s second event in Germany and second in continental Europe.

The sport has been met with severe criticism by German media, which led to the banning of minors from the first German UFC event (UFC 99). The sport itself was actually banned from broadcast altogether in Germany in March 2010 due to the “extent of violence being shown to be unacceptable.”

Regardless, UFC plans to combat the opposition, after stating: “Not getting TV isn’t going to stop us; we’re going to keep going. We can’t get into Ontario; we’re opening an office there. It doesn’t bother us.”

Vitor Belfort was set to face Yushin Okami in the main event, with the winner receiving a middleweight title shot. However, on September 21, 2010, Belfort withdrew with what was first said to be an injury. It was later reported that Belfort pulled out of the fight to face Anderson Silva. Nate Marquardt will now face Yushin Okami in the main event in what is expected to be a title eliminator bout. .
