Before becoming known as having some of the best wrestling skills without having any previous wrestling credentials before starting his mma career, GSP was mainly known for his explosive, technical and versatile striking.

So as tribute to his upcoming fight with Josh Koscheck at UFC 124, Ive decided to share the first of four of GSP workout videos recently uploaded to youtube, where GSP demonstrates some of his stand up striking techniques.

In this video from Dana White’s video blog of the lead up to this weekend’s UFc 120, Dana catches up with GSP who explains his recent tutelage from Joe Rogan to help improve his spinning back kick.

Rogan, mainly known for being a comedian, and although many know of his jiu jitsu training, he was a former Tae Kwon Do chamipion. At around 3:46 on the video, Dana watches some footage on his phone of Joe executing a spinning back kick, with very nice form.

I’ve always appreciated Joe Rogan’s commentating because of some of the finer points of the game that he illustrates while watching a fight that soemone who is a mere spectator would not know.
You can watch a thousand fights but there are some things that you can only learn by training yourself.

I read a comment that said that Tae Kwon Do kicks were only good for kicking people off horses.
During my time training in Tae Kwon Do, I found that Tae Kwon Do possessed some of the most technical and extensive kicking skills and probably the flashiest too. They may not generate the power of muay thai kicks, but GSP explains that the Tae Kwon Do spinning back kick is the most
powerful spinning back kick form all the styles. Bruce Lee also borrowed many of Tae Kwon Do’s kicking techniques to incorporate into his style of Jeet Kune Do

The kicks I have learned from Tae Kwon Do have also served me very well too:)

I was going to post a video of Chuck and Rich training for their fight this weekend but I found this on youtube and even though it is a few months old, it has a couple of my favorite fighters in it so I thought I’d post this instead… a bit of a tribute to Rashad’s recent victory over Rampage too.

This is some footage of a GSP workout training with Rashad Evans in preparation for his  second fight with BJ Penn.  A beautiful thing watching two elite level athletes, from different weight classes even, utilizing each others strengths to prepare for similar styled fighters.

Even if they never face each other in the cage, one can get an idea on how a match up may go between the two.
