One of my friends and fellow student of while I was studying to become a personal trainer shared this video with me on Facebook the other day. I don’t watch the cartoon network so I did not see it there. I would have spun out if I did!
I love to see successful athletes, actors, musicians (anybody really) using there fame and popularity to spread the good word about health and fitness to the younger generation, particularly on a Saturday or Sunday morning while they are sitting on their asses watching cartoons. Not that that’s a bad thing. That’s how I spent most of my weekend mornings too.
I think Bas is an excellent ambassador for mma, as many non-combat sport fans have this idea that two guys bashing each other in a cage is barbaric (where on Earth would they get that idea?) and that men and women who take part in this type of sport are thugs.
There are many fighters who could take a leaf out of the book’s of fighters like Bas Rutten, GSP, and Randy Couture. Georges St Pierre’s and Randy Couture’s admirable qualities being hard work, discipline, skill set evolution and one of my favorite traits, humility.
Now one of Bas’ most admirable traits may not be humility but something that is very important when you are a public figure that can be equally admirable is entertainment value. For fighters, that means in and out of the cage.
Somewhat of a disappointment to me is listening to interviews with fighters who are exciting to watch but listening to them speak is like listening to a four hour lecture on trigonometry!
In my opinion the only other fighter that I really look forward to hearing what they have to say after I watch them fight is Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson.
So I dedicate this post to all the overweight cartoon, and gaming console kids out there (that includes my son and I too) and too all the fighters who have their egos in check and who actually have a personality, heres some words of fitness wisdom from MMA legend Bas Rutten.
Please leave a comment if you like this vid. Love to hear what you think….
